Foraging for Dyeing and Spinning

Cost: £60 per person including all materials and light lunch.

Learn from Debbie Zawinski how to make a spindle from found materials in the forest, spin yarn from wool collected on our walk, and learn how to use foraged materials for natural dyeing.

Learn natural dyeing and spinning with The Feral Spinner – Debbie Zawinski, author of In The Footsteps of Sheep, Schoolhouse Press, USA, 2015.

We shall be walking through the woods gathering fleece, dyestuffs and the materials for making our own spindles. We shall learn how to make a spindle, spin yarn and be introduced to the art of natural dyeing.

You will leave with a spindle, a spinning stick, a nostepinne, a small skein of your own hand-spun yarn, samples of natural dyed fleece and the knowledge to create your own garments from a walk in the countryside.

Limited to 8 participants.

No experience required.

Please bring all-weather outdoor clothes.

Accommodation available if required.

Debbie Zawinski lives and works in East Lothian. She was born and brought up in Cardiff and studied medicine at Edinburgh University. She worked as a doctor and as a mother. Once her children left home she took her spinning, her knitting and went walking, writing and teaching.
